About UTU Soko

A marketplace rooted in community.

UTU Soko is a digital marketplace built around a simple idea: communities have products, knowledge, creativity and places worth sharing with the world. Our role is to help create the connection.

Our vision

A marketplace where community products, culture and opportunity meet.

A trusted digital platform through which people can discover products, places and experiences rooted in communities across Kenya and beyond. Where organic food can sit alongside indigenous crops. Where honey can sit alongside art. Where fish can sit alongside handmade artefacts. Where commerce can exist alongside culture, heritage and community.

Our mission

To connect communities, products and markets.

We create a platform that gives customers access to quality and culturally rooted products while creating new market opportunities for producers, suppliers, artisans, farmers and community enterprises. We aim to grow the marketplace responsibly, through partnerships and relationships with the people who make it possible.

Our connection to UTU Heritage

Grown from the UTU philosophy of oneness.

UTU Heritage places co-creation and collaboration with indigenous communities at the centre of its activities. The wider UTU work encompasses cultural heritage, sanctuaries and expeditions, environmental work, social care, agriculture and the arts.

UTU Soko creates a digital space through which these community products, enterprises, places and opportunities become more accessible to customers and wider markets.

Growing together

Today it may be fish. Tomorrow it may be something you produce.

We do not want to decide from a distance what communities should sell. We want to listen, build relationships and create space for products and enterprises that have genuine value. The marketplace grows when the community grows.

Let’s build the marketplace together
